Gaffer: the daily football game that hides every rating
Gaffer is a free football game about one thing: whether you really know your stuff. You
draft a Premier League XI from right across the league's history, only the cards show you no
numbers. A name, a club, one season to go on, and that's your lot. Knowing how good a player
actually was that year is the whole game. Fame and quality were never quite the same
thing, and Gaffer knows the difference.
Ways to play
The Daily XI is the ninety-second test: one board for the whole world,
same players, same budget, same constraints, and your Scout's Eye score to share when you're
done. Dynasty hands you a club to take through ten seasons while the years
catch up with your best men. Ultra asks you to name an XI from memory, with
nothing to prompt you. The Gauntlet is a roguelike run with the rules
shifting under you. And the Almanac keeps every badge you pick up along the way.

What is the Daily XI?
One board for the whole world each day: the same players, the same budget, the same draws for everyone. You draft your XI, reveal it, and put your Scout's Eye score up against the rest of the planet.
Do I need to know player statistics?
Not a bit of it. There's not a stat in sight. You get a name, a club and a season, and working out how good that player was in that season is exactly the skill we're testing.
Is this an official Premier League game?
No. Gaffer's unofficial and generic by design, with no badges, no crests, no kits and no photos. The club names and colours are only there so you know who's who.
Which players are in the game?
Real players from right across Premier League history, back to 1992, each one pinned to a real season we could actually stand up. Where we couldn't prove a season, we left the card out rather than guess at it.
